Aha Moment

Today in science, we did an experiment on finding the volume of an irregular object using water displacement. First, we dropped the weight, the object whose volume we were trying to find out, into a graduated cylinder and measured how many millilitres the water went up. The water went up five millilitres. For the bigger weight, it went up ten millilitres. Then we dropped the weight into the overflow can and saw how many millilitres of water came out of the spout. The results were the same. All of a sudden, we realised what the Aha moment was. One cubic centimeter is equivalent to one millilitre. Now we know that we can use water displacement to find the volume of a regular object! We also had a discussion about which one we'd prefer if we had to measure the volume of another irregular object. Most people liked the the graduated cylinder measurement way because the overflow can took so long to get all the water out. I was only supposed to learn science that period but I learned something about human behaviour. They are very impatient!
