Elodea Lab

When salt water flows under the cover slip, the protoplasm (the cytoplasm and the nucleus) flow out of the cell membrane, due to osmosis, where the higher water concentration is in the plant, and it goes out into the salt. The outer cell wall is very rigid so it doesn't collapse for some time. Plants wilt because, after some time, the cell wall does collapse, and the whole plant starts to wilt.
