The book Mr. Buxton is currently reading the book “Rules” by Cynthia Lord. The book is about this teenaged girl called Catherine, her brother David, this boy called Jason, and what Catherine hopes to be her future friend, Katie. She struggles to keep her brother in order while she tries to make friends with her new neighbor and assisting her friend Jason who is phisically and vobically crippled. This is a rather interesting and amusing book. The interesting part about the story is learning about Catherine. Like for example, when her mom forces her to take care of David, it’s interesting to see how she will cope with the task. On one occasion, she happens to shout at him to get him in order. It’s also interesting to see how she will get out of situations or problems.
Sometimes, she uses some of the rules that she writes down for David, like if you want to avoid talking to a person, then say “Got to go.” Not to mention she has to try to try to make a good first impression on Kristy, her next door neighbor. Trying to keep David from embarrassing her, which he’s done more than once. She tries rather amusingly and interestingly to create and expand further on that first impression. She also experiences a lot of ridiculous moments in her life. Most of those moments are with David mainly when he calls out rules. Here are a few examples “No toys in the fish tank” is probably David’s favorite rule. Apparently he does the exact opposite of that. He’s said it twice before, both in front of Kristy who probably thinks he’s mental! “Keep your pants on.” is another ridiculous moment. believe me you don’t want to see David in those moments. Still not all of the moments are stolen by David. Here’s one with Jason. When Catherine choses words for Jason’s word book “Stinks a big one” is one of the words written down on a little card. When Jason’s speech therapist comes in an over friendly greeting the cards of Catherine are put to use. Jason’s therapist is classified as stinks a big one in Jason's book. I recomend this book to anyone who loves humor. Enjoy!
